Onboard Training and Familiarization
Senior officers travel to the shipyard 6 – 8 weeks before delivery of the vessel to participate in the tests and trials, including sea trial and to familiarize themselves with the vessel and the individual installations.
The officers are part of the local supervising team consisting of abt. 12 highly experienced tanker professionals.
In addition to this Offen Tankers has arranged with various suppliers “hands – on” training the crew in the use and operation of onboard equipment.
Apart from the standard STCW and Flag State certification and requirements (please refer to attachment MH 2.01) Offen Tankers has arranged for various additional training courses:
External courses and training
The officers for the Offen Tankers fleet have to undergo following additional external courses:
- 1 week ECDIS course prior to joining
- ICE navigation course prior to joining
- FRAMO pump course
- MCA approved SSO course prior to joining
- BTM course prior to joining
- BRM course prior to joining
- Ship handling course prior to joining
- UK lap exam
“Pre-Departure Orientation”
Before going to the office for further briefing or joining a ship, the crew member shall attend an orientation lecture at the manning agency office. General topics covered:
- Company policy
- Company QHSE system manuals
- Terms and condition of employment
- Travel trips
- Do's and don't about host country
- Vessel familiarisation
- Foreign remittances and taxation
- Code of discipline and responsibilities of Filipino workers overseas (as applicable)
- Rules of Philippines Embassy, Consulate Offices’ and the Labour Attaché Service” (as applicable)”
Training and Familiarization at the shipyard:
- Dedicated FRAMO course by FRAMO specialist on the installed equipment
- Introduction to the cargo monitoring system by maker
- Introduction to the engine monitoring system by maker
- Cargo handling training
- Communication systems
- Operation of safety equipment
Furthermore the officers have access to laptops and computer systems to continue with the training for the dedicated onboard software.
